Underground platforms for waste collection in Baia Mare

Investment in underground platforms for selective collection

Baia Mare has taken an important step in modernizing public sanitation services by installing 56 buried platforms for selective waste collection. This modern solution contributes to improving the quality of life, protecting the environment and bringing the city in line with European waste management standards.

Benefits of buried platforms for the community

Implementing this system brings clear benefits for residents:

  • reducing odors and maintaining cleanliness in residential areas;

  • increasing security by limiting access and preventing vandalism;

  • Aesthetic integration into the urban landscape, the containers are located underground;

  • operational efficiency, due to compatibility with standard hydraulic equipment used in waste collection.

Thus, underground platforms are both an urban amenity and a sustainable way of waste collection.

Technical features

The new buried platforms installed in Baia Mare include:

  • 4 Eurocontainers of 1,100 liters, EN 840-2 compliant, resistant to physical and chemical factors;

  • card-based access system, usable only by the tenants;

  • volumetry sensors that transmit the filling level in real time;

  • Photovoltaic panels and gel batteries, which provide the energy needed to run the building.

These platforms are designed to withstand temperatures between -30°C and +45°C and extreme environmental conditions, making them a sustainable investment.

A step towards a European city

Local authorities in Baia Mare demonstrate through this project their commitment to:

  • increasing citizens' quality of life;

  • sustainable development of the sanitation service;

  • protection of the environment and public health;

  • compliance with national waste management legislation.

The implementation of the 56 buried platforms is a concrete example of urban modernization and a significant step towards European standards.
